Lunar New Year Festival Returns To Balboa Park 2011

San Diego, California – December 29, 2010 – In an effort to preserve the rich Vietnamese culture and heritage, the Vietnamese American Youth Alliance (VAYA) will be putting together the 6th Annual “TẾT” Festival at Balboa Park to celebrate the 2011 Lunar New Year.

“Taste of TẾT” is the theme for this year’s festival.  The festival will be held on the following days:

  • Friday, 01/28/2011                 05:00 PM – 10:00 PM
  • Saturday, 01/29/2011            11:00 AM – 10:00 PM
  • Sunday, 01/30/2011               11:00 PM – 05:00 PM

Location: Balboa Park, San Diego (corner of Park Blvd & Presidents Way)

The year 2011 is the Year of the Cat, which characterizes peace and harmony.  Thousands of people are expected to attend this well-planned festival.  Hundreds of volunteered staffs have put in countless number of hours and are fully equipped from prior years’ experiences that would make it possible for this extraordinary festival.  VAYA appreciates the community’s supports in attending this event and help preserving the Vietnamese’s culture and traditions.  VAYA hope that the “2011 TET Festival” will be an enjoyable, entertaining and memorable event for attendees of all ages.

What’s Going On This Year?

Lunar New Year 2011 will features the First Annual San Diego’s Got Talent Show on Family Sunday afternoon.  This show will showcase the finest talents in singing, dancing, and kung fu.

The Festival will welcome guest stars such as: Mai Tien Dung, Huong Giang (both from Paris by Night), Chi Tam and Ngoc Dan Thanh.  Along with the guest stars appearances, the Festival will have the return of the Ms. Vietnam San Diego and Mr. Vietnam San Diego pageant show on Saturday night, five (5) designer fashion shows on Friday night, and Kids’ Spotlight, Lion dance, Traditional dance on Saturday Opening Ceremony.

The Festival will also be showcasing cultural and hip-hop dances from various other groups and youth organizations such as: Free Fall band (semi-finalist for best National School Jam USA 2010, 1st place winner in Vietnamese Music Festival 2009) Red Not Chili Pepper (nominated for 2010 San Diego Music Award – Best Tribute band), Van Lang, Defiances.

Cultural Village area of the Festival, this year will feature events for all ages and more replica Vietnamese structures providing an evocative look at life in Vietnam to include: Chợ Hoa (Flower Market), Quán Bên Đường (side food kiosk), Kids’ corner with traditional games + prizes, photo booth of traditional backdrop with Đòn Gánh(carrying yoke), Cầu Khỉ(monkey bridge), Fashion Show “Xưa và Nay” (Past & Present), Áo Cưới Xưa và nay (Wedding gown past & present).  In addition to the diverse entertainment, the festival will host over 100 vendors including over 25 food vendors. Please join us at the festival for the taste of Vietnam while learning more about the product and services of the community!
