About Miss Vietnam of San Diego™

The Miss Vietnam San Diego™ is established with the primary focus of elevating the Vietnamese-American female as a national symbol of beauty and pride captured internally and externally through her poise, grace, intellectual strength, and individuality.

The pageant also serves to promote the Vietnamese culture by retaining the functions of the traditional dress ao dai, developing teamwork through cultural dances, and directing questions to educate the audience on the perception of culture via the eyes of Vietnamese females today. Last but definitely not least, its third purpose is to bring people together, females who participate, family and friends who watch, and all others involved in its formation, fostering a stronger sense of community.

It is an opportunity to develop long-standing friendships and to interact and have fun with peers who carry a similar Vietnamese-American identity. Overall, the Miss Vietnam San Diego is a non-profit event whose only purpose is to serve the Vietnamese community. It serves to elevate the Vietnamese-American female, to promote our culture and heritage, to develop a lasting bond between people of similar identity, and to define what it means to be united. In accomplishing its goal, it can truly say, everyone is a winner.

2013 Miss Vietnam Postponed

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 29, 2013

SAN DIEGO - The Annual Miss San Diego Pageant has been postponed, pageant organizer announced today. The Vietnamese-American Youth Alliance, which produces the annual pageant in conjunction with the San Diego Tet Festival, said that lower participant turn outs and time constraints are the reason for the postponement.

"We regret that we have to postpone the pageant this year," Festival Director Alexander Nguyen said. "This is the first time in our history that we have to postpone the pageant, but ultimately we feel this is the right thing to do. We have a standard that we hold ourselves to, and we would not feel right to put on a second rate pageant."

The pageant was supposed to take place on the evening of Feb. 16, the second of the day of Tet Festival. Organizers say that they are still accepting applications for the pageant, which will be held at a later date to be determined this year. In place of the pageant will be fashion shows, showcasing the beauty of the traditional Vietnamese Long Dress or Ao Dai.

The winner of Miss Vietnam receives a $3,000.00 scholarship as well as representing the Vietnamese community at civic functions. To compete, contestants needs to be at least 1/8 Vietnamese, between 17 to 26 years of age and have not married.

For more information about the pageant, contact pageant coordinator Katie Nguyen at pageant@sdtet.com.
