My name is La Lan. I love volunteering during my free time. I am actively involved in cultural related activities. I believe that it is important to retain our culture. I love choreographing dances at church, temple, and school. I also helped out with tutoring Vietnamese language at an elementary Vietnamese school. These activities have enhanced my Vietnamese speaking skills. Furthermore, dancing to the Vietnamese music makes me feel more connected to my Vietnamese roots. For the same reason I dance, I continue to explore more about my culture by joining the pageant contest. Like the old phrasing goes, “Di mot ngay dang, hoc mot sang khon”. I hope that this pageant experience will help further enhance my understanding of the Vietnamese roots and cultural heritage; and allow me to pass on my understanding to future generations.
