Hi, I am Mimi Bui. I was born and raised in San Diego. I have lived an amazing 24 years and this pageant is something out of the ordinary that I have never imagined myself being a part of.
I am an adventurous girl who loves to appreciate the little things in life. I feel like there is so much to see and do. I am always up for a challenge because they make me a stronger person.
What I hope to gain out of this pageant is to discover something different about myself and to see what I am capable of. Growing up in a traditional Vietnamese home, I never knew my parents on a personal level. Participating in this pageant created a new bond between my parents and me because this was the first time we were able to speak freely and honestly to each other. While discussing the questions posed to the contestants with my parents, I was able to better understand what my parents valued in life. I was able to see a side of them that I had never seen before – a compassionate, amiable side. In explaining my answer, my dad was able to understand my passion and interpretation of life and all that it brings. My father turned to me and said, “I finally understand you and I respect your decisions.” With tears in my eyes, I felt closer to my parents.
Though I’ve gained these positive memories so far I hope to gain so much more through this lifetime experience.
