#5. Lanphi Nguyễn
My name is Lanphi Nguyen and I am contestant number 5. My name is a combination of Lan, meaning “flower” in Vietnamese and Phi, because I was born in the Philippines. I am currently 21 years old, attending UC San Diego as a fourth year majoring in Management Science and minoring in Accounting. Besides going to school and work, I enjoy spending time with my family, hanging out with friends, playing volleyball, watching movies, going to the beach, cooking, shopping, dining out and especially, creating art projects.
I love art. Art is about creating an end product that produces meaning and connection regardless of the mistakes made in the progress, the tools used, or the money financed. I believe everyone’s life is an art piece. It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor. As long as you utilize your gifts and talents to make your life meaningful and connect with others, there’s no problem that cannot be solved. Part of being an artist is to execute a project regardless of the scenario given. This applies to real life situations. When life gets hard and I am going through different problems, I take what is given and try to make the best of it. I know that when I piece my options together carefully, I can somehow, someway, find the solution because life is the most precious type of art.
