#13 – Diem Vo
Although my full name is Vo Huynh Diem Phuong, my friends call me Diem and at home I’m regarded as Phuong nho meaning “little Phuong”, because I have an older sister with the same name. I was born in My Tho, Vietnam but moved to the states with my family at the age of 2, brought up and blossomed in the beautiful city by the bay, San Francisco.
Currently I’m studying Sociology (Culture & Communication emphasis) and Visual Arts (Media/Cinema) at the University of California, San Diego. Although the future is unclear, I’m hoping to further my education in graduate school for Public Policy or Education, in pursuit of a career in the nonprofit sector. Ideally, I would like to organize a communal space and provide resources and education for underpriveledged communities that lack essential human necessities or skills to strive in our society. I hope to incorporate collaborative arts someway into my practices, while also advocating socioeconomic rights to shape government policy.
My interests include photography, traveling abroad, live music, long hikes, watching documentaries and trippy foreign experimentals, impromptu picnics, and laughing.
With this pageant, I wish to become closer to my native culture as well as be more involved in the vietnamese community.
Have a lovely lunar new year and help my luck by voting for me! Contestant #13!
