#14. Diana Lê
Hello there!
First of all, I want to thank you for taking your time to get to know a little bit about me. My name is Diana Le and I am contestant number 14. I’m 21 years old and currently a fourth-year student studying Applied Mathematics at San Diego State University.
I was born in Saigon, Vietnam. My family and I moved to the States when I was 12. Being a single and working mother, my mom was extremely worried that my brothers and I would have a hard time adjusting to our new life. At a young age, I realized that the only thing that I could do to help lessened her worries was to not only catch up, but to also thrive in my study. And that was exactly what I did; all my attention and focus were directed solely on school.
So why did I decide to be a part of Ms. Vietnam of San Diego this year? Ever since we came here, my brothers and I never really got a chance to be involved in the Vietnamese community; we knew very little about it. However, I was fortunate enough to find the door to the Vietnamese community that I was once unintentionally shied away from through friends. I knew it was a time for change and to reconnect with the beautiful culture that I was lucky to be born into. This pageant was a perfect opportunity for me to showcase myself as a proud Vietnamese-American; and on a lighter note, it’s a chance to show everyone that being a Math nerd is not the means to not be able to participate in events such as this. (: Through this, I not only get a chance to learn more about my culture and traditions, but also a chance to practice my Vietnamese and make more Vietnamese friends as well.
Again, I want to thank you for taking your time to read my short (or long) biography! Don’t forget to cast your votes! Happy Vietnamese New Year!
Em xin kính chúc quí vị và các bạn một năm mới mạnh khỏe, vui vẻ, bình an, làm ăn phát tài, phát lộc. (:
