What and Why SDTET's Got Talent?

SDTET's Got Talent was created to bring the talented pool of Vietnamese-American performers together, to showcase their uniqueness in different forms that include: singers, dancers, magicians, comedians and other performers.

All will be competing for the top prize and to be the first winner of the 2nd Annual SDTET's Got Talent and these talents in San Diego will have an opportunity to showoff their skills at an exciting TET Festival's environment.

Instructions:

  1. Print out the application, fill it out, and bring it to the audition.
  2. Auditions will be held: Friday Dec. 16th from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm and Saturday Dec. 17th from 10 AM - 1:30 PM.
  3. All performers will photographed prior to trying out, which will be used if chosen to compete on a Tết Flier.
  4. Bring any equipment you need to the try outs.
  5. Bring either a CD or DVD of your song for your performance (if applicable).
Requirements:
  1. I am at least 1/8 Vietnamese or at least one member of the group is Vietnamese AND is a San Diego Resident.
  2. I am/we are NOT currently a VAYA staff or Tết Festival staff member.
  3. I/we did NOT place top 3 for SDTET's GOT TALENT in any previous years.
  4. I am at least 9 years old. (There is no age limit)
  5. The duration of the act is no more than 10 minutes long.
  6. The equipment needed can be self-supplied.
  7. I/we can come to the mandatory rehearsal Thursday January, 19th in the evening.
  8. The performance is family friendly.
  9. I/we can be at the performance by 12:00pm on January 22nd, 2012.
  10. One person can only be a part of one event.

From 2011...

Welcome to the Cultural Village 2011, with the theme "A Portrait of Country Life," we are envisioning a cozy place for Young and Old to come visit, learn and enjoy the feel of an exotic environment created for our fellow countrymen and foreign visitors to experience through the 3-day event, packed with Vietnamese traditions, history, education, entertainment and activities.

This year especially, our mission is to emphasize village life - a return to our agrarian roots. As Vietnam progresses into a developed nation, many of the traditional ways and customs of old are being lost. Cultural Village is a way for people experience country life. The village has always had central role in Vietnamese life. As the popular folk saying goes, "The emperor's law is no match against the village's custom."

Come and join us, dress up, help us improve the overall program and simply be a part of Cultural Village to add flavor and color to the "Heart of the Tết Festival."

As Vietnamese children grow up in foreign land, it is our responsibility to help them understand and preserve our culture. To accomplish this task, VAYA has created Kid's Spotlight to help educate young Vietnamese Americans to have basic knowledge of their culture. This competition is for Vietnamese American children between 4 to 12 years old. Kid's Spotlight gives youth an opportunity to express the beauty, talent, and essence of Vietnamese traditions Contestants (individual or group) will be judged on, but not limited to: charisma, ability to comfortably speak in Vietnamese, ability to answer questions, and ability to show talent(s). Contestants will be judged on the following skills:

  3. Fluency
  4. Talent
  5. Overall performance/presentation
